![]() Our friend and insanely cool artist Denise Vasquez recently dropped us a line showing off a new creation she's made for a charity contest sponsored by HalloweenCostumes.com. The contest benefits Midwest Art Catalyst and The Miracle League of North Mankato and has artists making unique Vader Helmets (a la "The Vader Project"). Denise's entry has been selected as one of the 25 finalists, and you can easily see why... she's created a jaw dropping glow in the dark FrankenVader helmet! To see this bad boy glow and to get some insight as to how Denise made it, check out this video she's uploaded. Comment Posted on Dec 15, 2011 by

![]() If you've got $24,000 burning a hole in your pocket this holiday season, then you may want to check out La Luz de Jesus Gallery because they've got this amazing painting available from artist Rob Burden. His show called "Toy Box" is a tribute to nostalgia. La Luz says it, "...features epic portraits of the small action figures that he played with as a boy. The patterns that adorn many of his canvases are taken from fabric, carpet or wall-paper patterns from his childhood home. His original toy is often framed in a shadowbox attached to the painting, acting as a modern reliquary for these figurines. Burden enjoys the irony of spending hundreds and hundreds of hours in order to make a single painting that glorifies an object that was cheaply, mass-produced for millions of kids." ![]() Our friend Tom Spina contacted us about another jaw-dropping Star Wars project he recently worked on. This time Tom and his staff restored an original Tauntaun from "The Empire Strikes Back". Holy smokes! The piece had previously been displayed at Planet Hollywood and was purchased by a client of Tom's in a recent auction. It was clearly in rough shape, but as you can see from the finished product above, Tom and his staff once again turned back time. To see some astounding before and after pictures of the restoration process, as well as a cool video, head over to Tom's website, Tom Spina Designs. Comment Posted on Sep 13, 2011 by

![]() Recently, as part of the "Hot and Nerdy" film series hosted at the Blue Starlite Drive in Austin, Texas, Austin Books and Comics held a screening of the very fun film, "Fanboys", which if you haven't seen it is about a group of friends on an amazing Star Wars journey. To commemorate the event, they commissioned artist Tim Doyle to make a print, and boy did he do an amazing job! Tim created this amazing piece, which should be titled "Leia Leading the Rebels", as it's based on the famous painting be Eugene Delacroix titled, "Liberty Leading the People" that helped symbolized the July Revolution of 1830 in France and is one of the most iconic paintings in the world. The print is 18" x 24", originally cost $40 and is limited to 325 pieces. There is also a variant blue "Night Falls on the Federation" edition limited to 150 pieces that originally cost $60. Both editions, which were originally sold at the screening with the few remaining pieces sold online afterwards, are completely sold out. So ebay might be your best bet to pick one of these up if you're desperate for one. I asked Tim if he thought about having Leia be topless in the piece and he said, "I really debated drawing her topless. It would fit the reference, but then I think people wouldn't want to hang it up. I thought about doing a topless variant, but ran out of time. These are the things that keep me up at night, decisions like this." Comment Posted on Aug 17, 2011 by
