On a popular Star Wars collecting forum, lots of community members have Civil War tags and mine says... "I'm With McQuarrie". Yeah, consider me a devotee of the highest order. If Ralph created it... I want it! So that's why a recent photo set post over at io9 caught my eye. They've put together what they're calling "100+ amazing pieces of Star Wars concept art"... and man, does it deliver. If you've never really given much thought to McQuarrie's contribution to everyone's favorite galaxy far, far away... rush over to io9 and check it out! That's an order :o) Comment Posted on Jun 29, 2010 by

Yeah, I know I'm late with this one... but somehow it got crossed up in the flood of news and stories I get on a daily basis here. But if you haven't seen it already... check out this game footage that premiered at E3 of the new Star Wars Kinect game that features controller-free lightsaber combat. Yeah, that's right... I said controller-free! Woot! Comment Posted on Jun 29, 2010 by

I know as much about high fashion as I do about nuclear physics... which would be zero. But as Star Wars continues it's crusade to invade every single part of our culture, Hong Kong illustrator John Woo has done a series of fashion illustrations featuring Star Wars characters wearing some of the world's most recognizable fashion labels, including: Darth Vader in Band of Outsiders, a Stormtrooper in Thom Browne, a Clone Trooper in A.P.C., Boba Fett in Supreme + visvim, a Scout Trooper in Viktor & Rolf, Jango Fett in Comme des Garcons and Jar Jar Binks in Martin Margiela. In tune with the 30th anniversary of "The Empire Strikes Back", Gentle Giant Ltd. has slipped our pals over at GentleGiantCollectors.com an early Luke Skywalker in Hoth gear mini-bust from their upcoming release. GGC has put together a full review of the piece, complete with video and a super photo set. With their usual attention to detail, and an uncanny likeness of Mark Hamill, this bust certainly qualifies as swagalicious. Make sure to head over and check out the in-depth review. With only 2,400 pieces in the edition size, this bust is sure to sell quickly... so if you want one... make sure to pre-order one from one of our sponsors. Comment Posted on Jun 21, 2010 by

With "Toy Story 3" having dropped into theaters this weekend, Pixar is once again flexing its muscles with the movie-going public. And just like everyone else, I’m right on board. The Pixar gang continues to deliver homerun after homerun… and “Toy Story 3” appears to be no exception. While “Up” remains my personal Pixar fave, my children prefer to watch “Monsters, Inc.” over and over and over and… well you get the idea! One of our favorite artists out there, Sillof, has also been bitten by the Pixar bug and has released this drawing titled, “Pixar Wars”. And according to his page at DeviantArt, he’s planning on actually sculpting these creations, and believe me… when he does… we’ll be sure to get some photos to you! Well, hello Kitty! For anyone who's into "super cute"... these should scratch you right where you itch. They were created by illustrator Joseph Senior, and he also created many other character crossovers including Batman, Robocop and Wolverine. Enjoy! (Via Geekologie) Comment Posted on Jun 12, 2010 by

I loved Michael Jackson right up through "Smooth Criminal". When "Thriller" dropped on MTV I was the perfect age to have it wash over me and appreciate what I was experiencing. Clearly, in terms of his dancing ability and affect on pop culture, I can't write anything in this blog that hasn't been written about him before... but gosh darn it.... the dude ruled! So when I saw this picture, which is titled "Stormwalking" by photographer Gareth Payne, I just had to share it with you. Heck, I made it my screensaver. Gareth has done lots of Star Wars toy photography, especially Lego mini-figs. So make sure to check him out on Etsy. (Via Technabob) Comment |
