Star Wars Celebration V Main Event - Jon Stewart Interviews George Lucas
Fans found out just how much Jon Stewart really loves Star Wars on Saturday August 14th, 2010 as he sat down with George Lucas on the main stage at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando Florida at Star Wars Celebration V. To the delight of the maximum capacity crowd, many of whom slept overnight in line in the stifling Orlando heat to get admission to the "Main Event" of the convention, Stewart introduced Lucas and proceeded to ask him dozens of questions sent in by fans. Lucas himself seemed delighted to be there and was well humored throughout - even when Stewart showed a reto Star Wars Underoos commercial. Lucas even had R2-D2 present Stewart with his own "StewJon" Stormtrooper action figure. Lucas answered questions ranging from the origins of many of the Star Wars characters' names, to the process of getting "A New Hope" made to what his feelings are toward the 501st costuming Legion. Of note, Lucas gave the audience a sneak of upcoming episodes from season 3 of the Clone Wars, including a scene which featured Darth Maul's brother. The headline news was his announcement that the Star Wars Blu-Ray set of discs would be released in 2011. But what brought down the house was when Lucas introduced Mark Hamill and then the two together gave the crowd a look at a never before seen deleted scene from "Return of the Jedi", which featured Luke Skywalker building and igniting his green lightsaber for the first time. Folllowing that, the goose bumps continued for the crowd as Stewart brought out Carrie Fisher. The crowd erupted again as Hamill fell to one knee in honor of his "sister", and Fisher proceeded to give Lucas a huge hug. Fisher then humorously asked Lucas if he'd be inserting her nude scenes back in! The crowd roared and Stewart hit the nail on the head and seemed to wrap up the entire event by saying, "We're gettin' the old band back together again." Aug 14, 2010 by Pete
