Lucasfilm Ltd. and 20th Century Fox have announced that the Star Wars saga will gets its official 3-D release on February 10, 2012 when "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" hits theaters. Obviously none of the Star Wars films were originally shot using 3-D technology, but Industrial Light and Magic is overseeing their conversion, which is being described as "meticulous".

"The Phantom Menace" should provide plenty of interesting 3-D opportunities, especially with the podracing sequence in the middle of the film. The film also contains some space battles, lightsaber duels and other candidates for the 3-D treatment that could be visually stunning. Look out! Jar Jar's tongue is going to be coming right at you!!!
