Star Wars Fans Help Baby Leah

Baby Leah

Being a Star Wars fan is a being part of a caring, worldwide community. And while Star Wars fans' love and appreciation for a certain galaxy far, far away is often the butt of "geek" jokes, it also needs to be celebrated as something very real... and sometimes very caring. Many have heard the tales of generosity that Star Wars fans have displayed for each other. Star Wars fan groups, including the 501st Legion and D.C. Star Wars Collecting Club, donate thousands of hours of time and just as much money to charities. Some years ago, one Star Wars fan actually donated a kidney to a fellow fan whom he had only chatted with in online Star Wars collecting forums - never having met in person.

Well, there's another amazing display of the Star Wars fan community rallying around a great cause - this time it's Baby Leah. Born in California about a month ago, Leah has been suffering from an unexplained illness which includes seizures and breathing problems. Her parent, Zev and Francesca Esquenazi, are facing a parent's worst nightmare as they watch their child struggle for survival. But on top of that, they also have been financially devastated by the huge medical bills. Well, Star Wars fans to the rescue!

With CNN doing a piece about Baby Leah and with Star Wars celebrities such as Peter Mayhew and Stephen Stanton making generous donations, Star Wars fans across the globe have made donations big and small to help Baby Leah and her family.
