Star Wars references in television shows are everywhere. Don't believe us? Well, then check out this Wikipedia entry on that very subject. However, one show that is among the very best at integrating nods to our favorite galaxy far, far away is "The Venture Brothers". Here's our Top 15 favorites. Go Team Venture!
Honorable Mention
These Guys!
Hit List: What list from Star Wars and The Venture Brothers would be complete without at least one shot of some convention-goers clad in costumes?
Season 1 - Episode 13 - "Return to Spider-Skull Island"
Hit List: Doctor Venture has a vision in which his father reveals a secret that's been gnawing at him (pun intended) for some time. "There is another... Venture." Sound familiar? Doctor Venture replies to his father, "Why are you talking like Yoda?"
Season 2 - Episode 23 - "I Know Why the Caged Bird Kills"
Hit List: Myra Brandish tells the Venture boys that she's their mother. Since she's got "the crazies", Hank and Dean refuse to accept her assertion - upon which she responds, "Search your feelings boys... you know it to be true."
#13
Girl Hitler and Lando Calrissian's Masked Revelations
Season 2 - Episode 20 - "Love-Bheits"
Hit List: As Team Venture is escorted down the hall in Baron Werner Üderbheit's lair, one guard slightly pulls down their mask... revealing Lando Calrissian! Just kidding... it's Girl Hitler!
Season 2 - Episode 18 - "Twenty Years to Midnight"
Hit List: Colonel Horace Gentleman lists the toys he wishes he had as a lad but weren't invented yet. Among them are the Imperial AT-AT Walker and Luke Skywalker's X-Wing Pilot Costume.
Hit List: As Doctor Byron Orpheus enters the courtroom for The Monarch's trial, we glimpse a Kubaz spy outside the courtroom door. Garindan, is that you?
Hit List: At the Venture Christmas party, Doctor Orpheus chats with Doctor Venture about "made up" holidays. Orpheus uses Kwanzaa and Wookiee Life Day as prime examples.
Hit List: Doctor Venture's bloody, severed arm is reminiscent of the arm of a certain Aqualish thug who met the working end of Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber in Chalmun's Cantina.
Hit List: After Billy Quizboy patches Doctor Venture's severed arm back on, he briefly pokes around with his own prosthetic hand in a nod to 2-1B doing the same to Luke Skywalker's prosthetic hand in "The Empire Strikes Back".
Season 2 - Episode 17 - "Escape to the House of Mummies Part II"
Hit List: As Hank shivers in the freezing Arctic winds, Brock Samson does the only thing he can do to keep him warm - cut open the belly of the deceased Edgar Allan Poe and stuff Hank in. Reminiscent of when Han sliced open the tauntaun in "The Empire Strikes Back", Brock even says, "And I thought he smelled bad on the outside!"
Hit List: Team Venture never wins best group costume. Why? Remember the bit from Sesame Street - "One of these kids is doin' his own thing"? Well, you've got Brock as Chewbacca, Doctor Venture as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Dean as Princess Leia and Hank as... "The Bat"
Hit List: In one of the most memorable moments in Venture Brothers history, Henchman 21 purchases a lightsaber at Doctor Venture's tag sale and promptly uses it to attack Brock Samson. The joke within the joke is that his approach is clearly a nod to the internet sensation The Star Wars Kid. Of course, 21's attack on Brock is fruitless as the saber blade is a hologram.
